Hi there- I came across your website via a friend who asked me to check out some info. I agree with most of the info you are telling people on your site. I’m an avid believer in real foods, especially butter! I really just wanted to comment on your remarks about ‘nutritionists.’ Firstly, you can’t be a nutritionist and be in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. You are a dietitian (RD)- but that’s a whole separate issue. I think it is a generalized statement about a whole group of medical professionals. Yes, Dr’s get barely any training on nutrition- but they are not nutrition experts. Unfortunately, people think they are god and have all the answers. That’s not to say they are not experts though- some are but only with experience and education. Sadly, AND is sponsored by a lot of conglomerates- Coca Cola, Nestle, Kraft, etc. As a dietetic intern (soon to be RD) it’s extremely frustrating for me. I am fighting against a billion dollar industry- the food industry that is. I don’t feel comfortable with a lot of what the academy preaches. And so do a lot of other Dietitians- I’d like to share with you this group: Dietitians for Professional Integrity. It’s a group of RDs who are fighting against AND sponsoring big corps. Here’s a link to their website : http://integritydietitians.org/
All I suggest is to please not generalize a whole group of professionals for supporting corps. like Kraft. It honestly, breaks my heart to see that. We don’t have to be a part of AND if we don’t want to be. And remember, not all RD’s are a like- it’s important to know their background and what their food philosophies are. I can tell you not too many RDs would agree with me about butter- but that’s the world we live in. It’s the same with Dr’s, RN’s and a slew of other medical and non-medical professionals out there- everyone has their own approach. Which makes it all the more difficult for society, right?
