“All who know the pure product and use it with understanding come to respect the essential oils. One cannot but admire their ability to operate effectively not only on the cellular, physical level, but in the emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and aesthetic areas of our lives also. If anything in this world is holistic, it is essential oils.”
-Valerie Ann Worwood, aromatherapist and author of The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy
Do you know just how incredibly amazing and therapeutic essential oils can be?
I didn’t. Recently, though, I’ve learned enough about the science of aromatherapy that I’m entirely convinced I now need to be on a mission to spread the truth about this to word to the whole wide world, about just how much essential oils can improve your health and change your life. Now that I’ve been using them on a daily basis, for a zillion different purposes, I can’t believe I ever lived without them!
And I can’t wait to share the everyday oils that I use in my home with you.
There’s 10 essential oils in particular that have in my stash, which I use at least one of every single day. They are:
- Peace & Calming
Some of these are single essential oils, and some are specially-formulated synergistic blends of essential oils, so they contain a variety of pure oils that work together for many different purposes.
All of these oils, plus a home diffuser and other goodies, came in the very first therapeutic essential oils purchase I ever made—the Premium Starter Kit from Young Living essential oils.
Now that essential oils are such a big part of my life, I want to share what I’ve learned by studying and using each of these everyday oils, one by one, by introducing each of them to you. And also, by giving you a chance to win them with a giveaway for each one! (Scroll down a bit if you just want to get to that part.)
Benefits and Uses for Peppermint
Peppermint is a favorite of mine, and is quite popular due to its varied uses and yummy smell. It has some pretty impressive medicinal properties, too. Here’s just some of the many benefits of peppermint:
- Soothes and aids digestion
- Stimulates and invigorates the mind
- Increases energy
- Improves concentration
- Calms nerves
- Reduces nausea
- Cools the skin and body
- Blocks pain and eases headaches
A study done by the University of Cincinnati found that inhaling peppermint oil increased mental acuity by 28%. Another, from researchers at the University of Kiel found that peppermint blocked headache pain in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study.
There are tons of basic uses for therapeutic peppermint essential oil. Some of the suggested uses include:
- Add a drop of peppermint essential oil to herbal tea to help aid normal digestion.
- Rub one drop of peppermint essential oil (with a carrier oil) on the temples, forehead, over the sinuses (careful to avoid contact with your eyes), and on the back of the neck to relieve head pressure.
- Apply peppermint essential oil (with a carrier oil) to the back of the neck and shoulders throughout the day to keep energy up.
- Apply a few drops to a cold compress for extra cooling effect.
- Inhale peppermint essential oil or rub a drop on to your abdomen to soothe minor stomach discomfort.
- Diffuse, inhale, or apply a drop of peppermint under the nose to improve concentration and alertness.
- Inhale peppermint essential oil, apply topically to your temples or neck, or put a drop on your tongue or in water to jump-start your morning routine.

Hi, I am just getting started with the essential oils. So far I have lavender and tea tree and really would love to have the chance to win the peppermint. I have recently changed everything in my how we eat, and what product we use. I have loved making my own lotion, shampoo, deodorants, and “real eating” has been wonderful. Thanks for all the information on your site:)

I love essential oils, I use them to make cleaners, now I rub thieves oil that I get in a local market on my feet and my daughter’s feet. I love peppermint to brighten up a morning and lavender to soothe at night. I also have found that bergamot works on my depression and anger issues, I have been using for a few weeks now, and instead of not wanting to get out of bed in the morning, now I look forward to the day. I am hooked.

My favorite is Lavander because it’s versatile : you can use it for acne problems, you can diffuse it in your room and it’s very calming.
I have dabbled with Essential Oils, now wanting something safer for the kids. Really want to try something like Peace and Calming or Mandarin to see how it works for calming the kids. Rainy days can just be too much sometimes!

I love essential oils and I use them on a daily basis. I began to study them when I was diagnosed with a very rare nerve disorder three years ago. On top of being mildly disabled, this nerve disorder makes it feel as though a knife is being shoved into my right ear constantly. It’s the worst pain I’ve ever experienced, and it never goes away. I’ve undergone an unsuccessful brain surgery as well as a surgery to cut the nerve, yet my days are still filled with immense pain. I turned to essential oils to ease some of this pain and to feel more in control of my life and well being, albeit while suffering from pain I have no control over. I also enjoy using my new found, and always expanding knowledge of essential oils when my children are ill or my husband has a bad migraine. Using essential oils has also allowed me to tap into my creative side on days when the pain is not too bad, to whip up homemade deodorant, toothpaste, diaper cream, lip balms and lotions. I love essential oils, and I look forward to the day I can afford a great quality like Young Living Essential Oils!
I have been using TruEssence essential oils. The Defense oil blend is especially good to use during the cold and flu season. I made it through this winter without a cold or flu!
I should copy this response: I used 3 Young Living Oils in my 1st grade classroom. I didn’t have any idea of how to extend the uses that so many people are sharing and experiencing now. At the time I used a diffuser and we had the “scent of the day”. Looking forward to getting a starter kit.
Sarah Auzina says
I am learning more daily about the uses of essential oils, and very slowly building my arsenal. Tea tree and lavender is a good start- peppermint would be great for my chronic headaches!

My favorite oils are Valor, Thieves, Peppermint and Lavender, though I use lots of others all the time, too. I am desperately in need of a new stock of oils, but the finances just don’t allow it right now. I would love to win this Peppermint oil. Thanks for the giveaway! Love your blog!

Janelle Scott says
I love essential oils and just started getting back into using them again. I have used Young Living in the past and they are wonderful but I recently started getting back into essential oils with doTerra and they are wonderful too. Since I started using them again in the fall of 2013, my toddler son who had coughs that would never go away, finally got relief from using Eucalyptus and Breathe!!! Since I started using OnGuard, lemon, eucaluptus and breathe, I have hardly been sick all winter and have managed to evade getting sick when my husband, son and friends have all been sick this past month. It is truly a miracle and I attribute it to the essential oils. I also recently just bought some Serenity and Clary Calm to help out with stress and the monthly pms!!! I have lots of others I have been playing with too for plantar fasciitis such as lemongrass, peppermint, Deep Blue, helichrysum. I love using them!
I just started my EO journey.
Danielle F says
I love essential oils and use them for everything!
Jessica T says
I’ve only used eucalyptus oil, and I do love it, but would love to try others. Eucalyptus is great! We just used it to get over being sick. We had sore throats and yucky feeling heads. We put a small crock pot in our bedroom with water and some drops of eucalyptus e.o. (we don’t have a humidifier or diffuser). It worked great while we slept and our sore throats are gone! I can’t to someday afford more E.O.!
Would love to add this EO to our store of remedies!

I am now a believer! I was told that geranium oil could lesson my monthly cramps…and it did!! I’m totally impressed 🙂
I have just a couple essential oils, one being Tea Tree Oil, which I love for many reasons, but don’t have much knowledge about using the others, so am interested in learning more. I did get some Oregano Oil to use for my lip fever blisters that come now and then, but it’s powerful and burned my skin. I did mix with olive oil carrier oil, but it still made a mess on my lip and skin above. It’s still red and peeling, but know there are many healthy uses for the oils.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this.
PS: Happy Belated Birthday !!!
I’ve just started learning about EOs and their uses.

I have heard peppermint oil can help with migraines and with oils you get what you pay for. Would love to try this for my migraines among other things.
There are many wonderful uses for peppermint oil, but my all-time favorite is in my car to keep the mice out.
This also works in the home. Mice are repelled by the scent of real peppermint, and they will beat feet when they get a whiff of it.
I live “out in the country,” so mice in the car are an issue – but not as long as I have peppermint oil!
Clell Adams says
I love the fragrance also.
I am just learning about the uses of EO’s
I’m convinced and going to buy Peppermint oil today
